St Minver 1st XI v St Erme – 3 May 2014
Result: St Minver won by 9 wickets.
After heavy rain last week, St Minver got their season off to a flying start with a 9 wicket win over St Erme. Having lost the toss and been made to bowl first, returning overseas player Warwick Abrahim set the tone early on with 3 wickets in his opening 6 overs, the third a sharp catch taken by Craig Allen at second slip. Warwick was well supported by Dennis Brown in the opening overs who was unlucky not to have any wickets himself in this game, bowling his first 8 overs for just 17 runs.
Jack Barton, Rob Hawken and debutant Jake Grubb all took wickets ensuring St Erme’s middle order fell quickly, and after brief resistance from the tail, 14 year old Charlie Hawken took the remaining two wickets as St Erme were bowled out for 133 off 35 overs.
In reply, St Minver were comfortable in getting the runs despite an early set back where Ryan Pooley was caught behind following an attempt to loft over the inner ring. Opener Ben Hawken was in good early season form as he made 65 not out, and was supported well by Warwick Abrahim who, after a near run-out scare, looked confident in scoring an unbeaten half century. Having batted for only 20 overs, Ben hit his eighth boundary to bring up a fantastic nine wicket win and confirm a maximum 20 points for St Minver.
Man of the Match: Warwick Abrahim.
