St Minver 1st XI vs. St Austell – 28 June 2014

Match Result: St Minver won by 9 wickets.

St Minver managed a comfortable victory in a potentially difficult game against St Austell at the weekend. St Austell won the toss and opted to bat but St Minver bowled and fielded well to keep their first innings score down to 168.

After an early wicket from Jack Barton, the first bowling change saw Dennis Brown come on and for the second week running was the top wicket taker, finishing with fantastic figures of 12 overs and 6 wickets for 35 runs. Browner had a particularly good second spell where he cleaned up the tail, nearly taking a hat-trick in the process. 2 wickets for Warwick Abrahim and a good stumping by Ben Hawken off Charlie Hawken’s bowling meant St Austell were bowled out after 45 overs leaving St Minver with full bowling points and 169 to win.

St Minver gave a solid chase in the second innings losing just one wicket and having 14 overs to spare. Opener Ben Hawken had a decent 81 not out, providing the major share of the runs, as Ryan Pooley (24) and Warwick Abrahim (47*) scored the remaining required runs.

A good win for St Minver keeping them at the top of the table ahead of next week’s game away at South Petherwin.
