South Petherwin vs. St Minver 1st XI – 5 July 2014

Match Result: St Minver won by 95 runs.

St Minver gained another 19 points in division 2 east this week with a win over South Petherwin. Having lost the toss and been put into bat, St Minver still managed maximum batting points comfortably with a solid 257-3 off of their 48 overs. Openers Ben Hawken (20) and Ryan Pooley once again looked fairly comfortable in getting the innings off to a good start with Pooley going on to score a half century, finishing with 59. The top run scorer of the day though was Warwick Abrahim whose 91 kicked the teams score over 200, and another unbeaten 50 for Rob Hawken and a late 11 not out for Craig Allen completed the innings at 257-3.

In response to this target, South Petherwin never really showed intent to reach the score and focused primarily on batting points and staying in. An early wicket from Jack Barton suggested a quick innings may have been on the cards but the second wicket partnership frustrated St Minver right up until drinks. After the break a good second spell for Jack Barton resulted in a further 3 wickets, the important breakthrough coming from a well taken catch by Jake Grubb. At the other end, wickets for spinners Rob Hawken and Luke Osborne, and then a couple for Dennis Brown meant St Minver were able to force South Petherwin to 9 wickets down, securing 4 bowling points.

Having won for a sixth consecutive game, St Minver remain top of the division 2 table where the next game is away at St Erme.
