St Blazey vs. St Minver 1st XI – 26 June 2014

Match Result: St Blazey won by 42 runs.

St Minver suffered their first defeat in eight games this weekend away at St Blazey. Having lost the toss and been asked to bowl first St Minver put in a decent bowling and fielding performance restricting St Blazey to 158 all out off 47 overs. Wickets were shared around with Rob Hawken taking the opening two wickets, followed by Dennis Brown, Warwick Abrahim and Jake Grubb all managing two wickets also. Keeper Ben Hawken had a good innings behind the stumps with two sharp stumpings as well as making sure of the two run outs in the game.

However, whilst reasonably pleased with their first innings performance, St Minver’s batting saw a rare collapse resulting in a defeat. Following the St Blazey breakthrough of Andy Rathbone edging to the slips for 10, wickets kept falling leaving St Minver at 78-8. After brief resistance from Shaun Hawken and Jack Barton, St Minver managed to get over the 100 mark eventually falling to 116 all out, 4 runs short of an extra batting point.

Overall a disappointing weekend for St Minver picking up just 7 points. With the league now fairly open, the side will need to turn things round quickly next week home to Callington.
